Human Constanta’s statement regarding the release of the “Belarus Today” material and accusations of “espionage”

Human Constanta
20 December 2022

On 20 December 2022, “Belarus Today” published an article under the title “Espionage network under the guise of human rights activists was uncovered by the employees of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.” We will not reprint direct quotes from this “journalistic investigation”, but we have something to say.

Since it was founded, Human Constanta has carried out exclusively peaceful human rights activities. We would like to emphasize that such activities are lawful and guaranteed to human rights defenders by the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and international human rights standards – including the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, approved by the United Nations General Assembly on 9 December 1998.

Therefore, we consider all accusations mentioned in the article to be groundless.

We will continue our human rights mission, defending human rights for everyone and demanding an end to all attempts of persecution and pressure on Belarusian human rights defenders in connection with their professional activities.
